I saw quite a number of comments on marijuana but that has ALOT of side effects, not only that but it's temporary, second, someone said all tv is bad, what about the discovery channel and the big bang theory, it sums up most of what I have learned "my education is the only thing keeping me from learning" gues who said it... surprise surprie Albert Einstein.

LMAO! Did this guy just say that TV was a safe way to raise theta levels, and cannabis is not ( with no basis other than its illegal)??

All you have to do is look at what TV does to other brainwaves, such as gamma, to see what a load of crap this guy is.

Meditation and cannabis go hand in hand, and always have.

@Gus
Actually I think that I do. Without using the tongue, if I focus on the thalamus area of the brain long enough and then shift my emotions to pure love for everything that is and feel as happy or excited about life as it is humanly possible, a series of phenomenon takes place in the brain, sparks of electricity stimulates my neurons, the properties of my cerebrospinal fluid change, powerful hormones are release, I then experience a 45 orgasm far greater than any sexual ones and I feel pure oneness.

It is an amazing experience, but it took me 3-5 hours to get there.

Earlier this month, I attended a 5-day spiritual workshop given by Drunvalo Melchizedek in Sedona, Az.
Drunvalo teaches to massage a spot on the roof of the mouth with the tip of the tongue to make alpha after you are already deep into his heart meditation. I've done this with a result that I get a ~10 minute long experience that I've heard Drunvalo apropriately describe as an orgasm in the heart. Have you any experience with this?

I have a question. Some of your suggestions seem off. Depression is caused in many cases by a non-stop fight or flight reaction, that literally exhausts the body into lacking any energy to focus. TV is then used as a self medication of sorts to escape thinking about life and constantly worrying about it, as well as entering in an alpha state to relax from chronic anxiety.

If you agree this is the case, wouldn't it be good for depressed people to undergo alpha brainwave therapy?

I have to side with both Jayme and unbrainwashed on this one. Cathode ray tubes induce alpha waves... so therefore they are healthy inducers...? The mind's greatest ability is its adaptibility/plasticity... that doesn't mean that the mind getting used to and familiarizing with negativity/violence/exploitation wont make more of the same.

I personally think that there can be few things worse for us than being relaxed and vulnerable in front of a TV. Falling asleep with the TV on is a crime...some parts of your conscious mind are perfectly awake and registering everything going on around you while you sleep. Just ask yourself what the program makers, and especially advertizers, had as their core goals when they made the stuff you are exposing yourself to.

If you live somewhere without too much traffic noise and lights, then taking a walk is really a great way to calm the mind and body, without sitting meditation. Though sitting techinques are great if you want to go deeper down the rabbit hole.
